Why the Install Matters as Much as the Glass
You can buy the best windshield made and still end up with a bad result. The glass is only as strong as the bond holding it in the frame. If the adhesive is poor quality, or the job is rushed, even good glass tends to fail early. It can leak, creak, pop loose or crack from stress, and you're right back where you started.
A careful install comes down to a few things:
- Clean, prepared surfaces. The old urethane has to be trimmed and the pinch weld cleaned so the new bead grabs properly.
- The right adhesive, applied evenly. A consistent bead is what seals out water and keeps the glass locked in place.
- Time to cure. Adhesive needs time to set up before the car goes back to hard use. We'll tell you when you can drive and when it's fine to run it through a car wash.
- Correct seating. The glass has to sit square in the opening so molding lines up and wind noise stays out.
This matters for more than comfort. In a rollover, a well-bonded windshield helps keep the roof from caving in. In a frontal crash, the passenger airbag often pushes against the glass as it inflates. A windshield that lets go at the wrong moment can't do either job. That's why we don't cut corners on the part you can't see.
If your vehicle has lane or braking cameras mounted behind the glass, mention it when you book. Many automakers call for those cameras to be recalibrated after a new windshield. Epic Auto Glass doesn't do calibration, so plan on a separate visit to a dealer or calibration shop.
